Chinese TFT-LCD makers plan production halt

Several Chinese TFT-LCD manufacturers, including BOE and TCL, are planning a two-week production halt in October 2024. This decision aims to control inventory and stabilize panel prices, particularly for LCD TV open cells. The production pause will coincide with the National Day holidays from October 1 to 7, but some fabs will extend the shutdown beyond this period.

This strategy follows a similar move during the Chinese New Year holidays in February 2024, which successfully managed the risk of panel price crashes.

The current halt is a response to decreasing demand and falling prices in the second half of 2024.
